Not long ago, I posted, “Love the Four Fabulous Facts.” Of the four, which would you say is the most important? Which do we need to complete us? Do we absolutely have to have someone love us? Is it a must that we love others? Is love for self the greatest need? (That would produce a world of narcissists, wouldn’t it?) Which one could we say is as essential to life as oxygen is to breathing?
This weekend, Pastor Marilyn Hickey taught on, “The Greatest Need is Love.” I listened on the edge of my seat, drinking every word. (If you weren’t there, you can hear what she said here.)
She spoke about Jesus and the woman at the well in Samaria. The woman was looking for love, our greatest need. She was looking for completion. She searched for it through the men in her life, but that didn’t work. Do you know why? It’s because our love isn’t perfect. We fall short.
As Pastor Marilyn said, the greatest need is love. You may say, “That’s not fair. We have a need for love, but we can’t fill it.” Though we can’t, God didn’t leave us helpless. He’s there to fill our need. God’s love satisfies our desires. When someone falls short (as they will), He steps in and meets the demand. He even goes past what’s needed. Look at the woman at the well. She came to get water, a natural need, and what did she come away with? Jesus said the water He gave was, “A well of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14). She came for water that doesn’t last and received everlasting life. But she didn’t get it from a natural man.
If we receive His supernatural love, we will have our greatest need met above and beyond what we can ask or think.
God completes us.
P.S. Enjoy the song …
